what is a doula?
A doula, also known as a labor support provider, is someone who understands
and trusts the process of birth, who respects its physical and emotional
aspects as well as its transformative and sacred aspects, and who can help
guide parents through the birth experience.
what does a doula do?
- has knowledge of tools to help such as positioning, pain
coping
techniques, massage, birth ball and many more
- can bridge the gap between you and the medical staff
- can help guide partner to help mom and give partner a
break
- help in the home postpartum with breastfeeding, light
house work,
siblings, help support mom with the many changes physically and emotionally
- has the proper knowledge of the process of birth and has
done it before
what I offer as a doula
- initial interview to see if we are compatible free of charge
- an all day childbirth education class in your home practicing pain coping
tools, getting to know one another, and discussing roles and goals
- on call two weeks prior to your due date and two weeks after your due date
- continual presence from onset of labor till baby is breastfeeding
- one home visit postpartum which includes a postpartum massage, and a
chance for you to process the birth
- available by phone to answer questions and offer resources at any time
- your baby’s birth story and a CD of birth pictures |
